How to Redeem iPhone App Promo Codes?

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

We occasionally give a bonus to our mailing list members and twitter followers. One of the bonuses that we give from time to time is a code to download a free copy of the Salsa Rhythm application to your iOS devices (or your best friend’s device, if you already have our app!).

Since we have been getting a lot of questions about how to redeem these codes, here is a short tutorial that explains how to do it in 3 simple steps directly from your iPhone/iPod/iPad device.

Step 1: Lunch the AppStore application

Simply tap the “AppStore” icon from your home screen:

Step 2: Tap the Redeem button

You will find the Redeem button under the “Featured” tab. Go into the “New” section and scroll all the way down. You will find the “Redeem” button there, just tap on it:

Step 3: Enter the code and redeem your app

Enter the promo codes in the “Redeem” window. When you finish, tap the “Redeem” button on the top-right corner of the screen:

Congratulations, you have just won a free copy of the Salsa Rhythm app for your iPhone!

If you like the app, please find a minute to rate us in the appstore. You can rate us by tapping the info (“i”) icon on the main screen of the app, then the “Rate Salsa Rhythm on the Appstore” button. Thank you!

3 New Piano Patterns, 1 New Bass Pattern

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

We have just added 3 new Piano patterns, contributed by Tyrone Collis from Germany. While at it, we also added a new Bass pattern that matches the existing I-IV-V-IV piano pattern, suggested by the trumpet player Pete Nater from New York. Finally, we added some new percussion patterns contributed by Jürgen Messerer from Switzerland. Jürgen is currently working on creating additional bongo patterns for us, so expect another update soon.

Here is the list of the new Salsa music patterns:

Piano

  • Montuno I-V-V-I + Passing Tones
  • Montuno i-V-V-i (minor)
  • Montuno V-V-I-I

Bass

The new bass pattern is called “Tumbao I-IV-V-IV”. It matches the first two piano patterns, “Montuno I-IV-V-IV” and “Montuno I-IV-V-IV + arpg. + passtone”, as well as the minor variation “Montuno i-iv-V-iv” and the ‘light’ variation “Montuno I-IV-V-IV Triads”.

Percussion

  • Bongos – Martillo Var1
  • Bongos – Martillo Var2
  • Bongos – Martillo para clave
  • Cowbell – Every Beat
  • Güiro – Güiro Danzón
  • Maracas – Maracas Son
  • Maracas – Maracas Son Montuno
  • Maracas – Maracas Son Montuno 2

iPhone version updated

Yesterday we also released a new version of Salsa Rhythm for iPhone. The Salsa Rhythm application version 1.7 now includes all the new patterns mentioned above, along with a new Rhythm & Timing videos page providing direct access to our online Salsa Rhythm & Timing video collection.

Salsa Rhythm 1.4 for iPhone is arriving

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

We have just uploaded a new version of the Salsa Rhythm iPhone application to the iTunes appstore. The new version is currently waiting for Apple’s approval, and it should be available to download within a week or so.

Features in the new version:

  1. Control the Clave orientation directly from the main screen (see the screen shot below). You no longer need to open the settings screen for changing the clave orientation.
  2. “Overlay audio” mode – Lets the Salsa Rhythm play over music from other applications, so you can put it on the top of a song from your iTunes music library, for example. This new setting is configurable from within the settings window.
  3. iAds – There are now iAds integrated in the embedded in-app browser. We have not included any iAds in the main screen nor the instruments configuration screens, in order to keep these screens clean and keep the users’ focus on the main app functionality.
  4. The memory management code was rewritten, fixing a few memory leaks that existed in previous versions.

You can see the new clave orientation switch marked in red in the screen shot below:

  • Control the auto-lock feature from the settings screen

Thanks for William Ch. Liu for suggesting the new play-while-screen-locked feature!

Apple is Fast !

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

They have just sent me a notification email to tell that Salsa Rhythm 1.3 is now being reviewed. This is only 24 hours after I have submitted the fixed version, following the bug they found yesterday in this version. Let’s cross fingers and hope they time the review will pass peacefully, and the new version will already be available tomorrow.

Salsa Rhythm App v1.3 Delayed, Rejected by Apple

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

The release of Salsa Rhythm App v1.3 was planned for today. Unfortunately, a that bug was found during apple’s review process will cause the release to be postponed until the next week.

The bug per Apple’s description happens on iOS 4.1 in the following scenario:

1) Launch Salsa Rhythm.
2) Go to the info page by tapping on the info button in the bottom right corner.
3) Select the “Send us Feedback” button.
4) The app crashes.

Unsurprisingly, when I tested the above scenario on my device it did not crash at all, no matter how hard I tried. Since my device had iOS version 3.1.2, I realized that this was the time to upgrade to the latest version, so I went all through the upgrade process.

Even then, after upgrading to iOS 4.1 I still was not able to reproduce the bug. I went all over the code again and again trying to guess where the bug could come from. Finally, after almost an hour of scratching my head, the solution came into my mind: Perhaps the app reviewer at Apple did not have an email account configured on his iPhone device?

With that idea in mind, I deleted the mail account settings from my iPod Touch, and voila – the app crashed when clicking on “Send us Feedback” and I was finally able to reproduce the bug. Needless to say, the solution was simply adding two lines of code for displaying an error message in case the user has no mail accounts configured.

This bug existed since the very first version of the application, but it was only discovered yesterday during Apple’s  review process. In my opinion, this bug has almost no impact – in reality, who uses an iPhone/iPod touch without taking advantage of its Mail program ?

Salsa Rhythm 1.2 now Available !

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Apple has just approved the new version of the Salsa Rhythm App for iOS and you can now get it on appstore.

This new version includes a feature requested by many users since the initial release of the Salsa Rhythm App: the ability to switch between Clave 2-3 and Clave 3-2 modes. This new feature is accessible from the Settings tab under the info window, as you can see in the following screen shot:

An additional feature you can see in the above screen shot is the new “Reset to Factory Settings” button that restores the default setup that was shipped with the Salsa Rhythm app.

Upgrading to the new version is free for all the existing users of the previous app version, and can be easily done from the appstore on your device.

Finally, Salsa Rhythm v1.3 is already coming along the way, and it is going to include new piano/bass patterns. More on this in the following days…

iPhone 4 Retina Crisp Graphics

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

We have been working for about a month on a new version of the Salsa Rhythm iPhone Application. Our focus was to create a better user experience by improving the graphics and sound sample quality.

One of the main features that will be visible for all the iPhone 4 users is the new Retina resolution graphics we have included. The instrument icons will suddenly look much sharper and crispier on your mobile device screen, along with new glyphs for the Piano, the bass and the conga drums.

To see how big the difference is, I have prepared an illustration, containing real graphics from the application. In this illustration, you can see the low resolution graphics and the Retina resolution graphics side-by-side, so you can get a good feeling of what it looks like:

Salsa Rhythm App 1.1 Graphics

The pixelated image on the left is what you see in the old app version. However, after you upgrade to the new version you will see the high resolution image on the right (you must have iPhone 4).

There are even additional improvements waiting for you in version 1.1 of the Salsa Rhythm App for iPhone, and it has just been dispatched to the Appstore approval process, meaning it will be available within a few days.

You can sign-up to our mailing list and get updates about the new version, also a chance to win a free copy.
